History Events This Weekend: Feb 2-3
There are two living history events coming up this weekend in Northwest Ohio. This is notable because history events in the dead of winter can be few and far between. On Saturday, Feb. 2 from 1-4pm Fort Meigs is hosting its Founder's Day. On this day, 200 years ago construction began on the fortifications at the Maumee Rapids. Despite an outlook for cold and snowy weather, there will be outdoor activities such as hewing timber, digging ditches, and shooting muskets as well as indoor attractions like hand sewing, cooking, skilled crafts and miniature gaming.
Admission 8 silver dollars (7-seniors, 4-students, waifs age 5 & under are free) or free with a five year enlistment in the Corps of Artillery.
Also coming up this weekend is the Fremont Living History Fair. Held at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday, this convention will showcase reenacting gear merchants and different organizations recruiting for new members. If you're interested in getting into the historical reenacting hobby, its as good a place to start as any.
Admission 4 Spanish Dollars.
